Description & Use Of RO Antiscalant:
It is highly effective liquid antiscalant/antifoulant developed to control scale precipitates and reduce particulate fouling within membrane separation systems.
Use of this product provides longer run times and extended element life resulting in reduced operating and capital costs.
Use in industrial applications show excellent results in membrane separation processes including
Reverse osmosis (RO), nanofiltration (NF) and ultrafiltration (UF) applications.
Features of RO Antiscalant/Antifoulant
Excellent results as a replacement for softener filters
Compatible with coagulants
Classified for use in producing potable water
Effectively controls scales including calcium carbonate up to LSI +3.0, calcium sulfate, barium sulfate, and strontium sulfate
Compatible with all of the leading RO membranes
Maintains cleaner membrane surfaces by dispersing particulate foulants
Effective over a wide pH range
May be fed neat or diluted
Good tolerance to aluminum and iron oxides
Application & Dosing:
For maximum effectiveness, RO Antiscalant should be added prior to the static mixer or cartridge filter housing.
For potable application, the maximum dosage is 10 mg/L. Maximum dilution is 10% with RO permeate or DI water. Typical dosage range is between 2 and 6 mg/L.
Reverse Osmosis (RO) Membrane performance can be negatively impacted by impurities that build up on the membrane surface during operations. Suspended solids, microorganisms and mineral scale can foul membrane elements. These deposits can cause loss in output and/or rejection levels and reduce total system performance.
Antiscalants are surface active materials that interfere with precipitation reactions in three primary ways:
Threshold Inhibition: It is the ability of an antiscalant to keep supersaturated solutions of sparingly soluble salts.
Crystal Modification: It is the property of an antiscalant to distort crystal shapes, resulting in soft non adherent scale. As a crystal begin to form at the submicroscopic level, negative groups located on the antiscalant molecule attack the positive charges on scale nuclei interrupting the electronic balance necessary to propagate the crystal growth. When treated with crystal modifiers, scale crystals appear distorted, generally more oval in shape, and less compact.
Dispersion: Dispersancy is the ability of some antiscalants to adsorb on crystals or colloidal particles and impart a high anionic charge, which tends to keep the crystals separated. The high anionic charge also separates particles from fixed anionic charges present on the membrane surface.
Our pretreatment program is designed to eliminate scale and reduce fouling in membrane systems, regardless of the feed water source. Our range of products are ready to use formulation for potable applications.
