Polyelectrolyte Cationic
In Tamil Nadu
Polyelectrolytes are a water soluble polymer, carrying ionic charge along the polymer chain. Depending upon the charge, these polymers are anionic or cationic. Polyelectrolytes are available in a wide range of molecular weights and charge densities. Homo polymers of acrylamide are also included in the family of polyelectrolytes though they do not carry any charge. These are called nonionic. Polyelectrolytes have got a wide range of applications right from water purification, oil recovery, colour removal, paper making, mineral processing, etc., etc,. Polyelectrolytes are both flocculants as well as deflocculants depending upon the molecular weight. A flocculant is essentially a solid liquid separating agent while a deflocculant is a dispersing agent.
Key Features and Benefits
Economical to use-effective at very low dosage levels.
Perform well over a wide pH range.
Improve throughput and cake solids.
Achieve high solids capture.
Easily sealable in water.
Dry product minimizes storage requirement.
Applications
Related to modifying flow and stability properties of aqueous solutions and gels.
They can be used to either stabilize or to initiate flocculations (precipitation).
They can also be used to impart a surface charge to neutral particles, enabling them to be dispersed in aqueous solution.
They can be used as thickness, emulsifiers, conditioners, flocculants , and even drag reducers.
They are used in water treatments and for oil recovery. Many soaps, shampoos, and cosmetics incorporate poly electrolytes.
Used in a variety of materials, including cement.
